A story about two storks is going viral, with many saying that it serves as a reminder that true love can overcome anything!

Meet Klepetan and Malena, two storks from Croatia who fell in love many years ago and have been together ever since. They first met on a red rooftop, and though storks don’t usually mate for life, Klepetan and Malena have remained devoted to each other ever since.

Malena was tragically injured by a hunter some years ago, and her wings were permanently damaged to the point where she could no longer fly long distances. This meant that she could not fly south with Klepetan on his annual winter migration.

Many expected that Klepetan would abandon Malena. Instead, for the past 15 years, he has returned to her home in March to be with her for the summer!

Each year, Klepetan flies over 8,000 miles to be with Malena. Stjepan Vokić, who lives in the house on top of which this couple met, has been caring for them ever since, and he explained that Klepetan returns home at the same time each year. Stjepan always greets Klepetan with a bucket of fish to help him recover from his long journey.

This past year, Klepetan surprised everyone by returning a week early. It seems that he missed Malena so much that he could not bare to be away from her for another week.

In their years together, Klepetan and Malena have raised over 40 storks. They live together with their family in a cozy nest on top of the roof where they first met.
