When Mandi and Wade Shapp left church one Sunday afternoon, they never dreamed what they’d find along the side of the road. Wade spotted the bag first and realized that a dog had its head poking up through the top of the bag, but it wasn’t moving. The couple stopped knowing they had to do something to help the poor animal.
The bag had been tied tightly at the bottom and only the dog’s head poked through. It was tied so tightly that the animal couldn’t move at all inside the bag. Obviously he had been placed their intentionally by some very cruel owners.
The Shapp’s used their car keys to cut open the bag and free the dog. The little guy was scared and cold, and didn’t seem to want to put weight on one of his hind legs. He was dirty and smelly, covered in dirt, urine, and feces from having been in the bag so long. The couple wrapped him up in a blanket and took him home for some tender loving care.

Once home, the couple gave the little brown dog a bath. He seemed to trust them enough, probably grateful for their attention and care. Although the dog looked okay once bathed, they decided to take him to the vet to have him checked out, especially that hind leg that he seemed to favor a bit. They were concerned that it might have been broken when the dog was thrown out the car window into the ditch.
At the veterinarian, the dog received a good check up and it was discovered that his hind leg wasn’t broken, but instead had been shot with a gun. He had a bullet wound on the inside of his back right leg. The vet guessed that the owners likely tried to shoot him, and when that failed, they put him in the bag and tossed him out of the car leaving him for dead.
The Shapp’s named the dog Bubba, and although they can’t keep him themselves, they have vowed to take care of him until they can find him a good home. Bubba seems to get along well with the family’s other two dogs and the vet estimated Bubba to be about one year old.

With everything Bubba has been through, he definitely deserves a warm, loving home to spend the rest of his days. Hopefully his owners will be found and charged with the animal cruelty charges that they deserve.
