John and Stella Chhan have been serving up donuts a Donut City in Seal Beach, California, for 30 years. So when Stella disappeared from behind the counter, it didn’t take customers long to realize something was up.

John revealed that Stella had suffered a brain aneurysm and was recovering in a nursing center. He was doing his best to keep the business open on his own while waiting for her to recover.

He explained that Stella had regained some of her strength, and each day when he closed the shop he would go be by her side. Stella’s sister had been helping him with the shop a bit.

Knowing that John wanted to get to his wife each day, the community and customers decided to help John out. A woman posted on social media that if everyone would buy more donuts each day, he could close the shop earlier and get to Stella.

And that’s exactly what happened. More and more customers began flocking to the shop and donuts, pastries, and muffins started flying off the shelves by the dozens.

Some days, John has even been able to close the shop as early as 10 a.m., something that John says he is very grateful for. His customers say it it just the right thing to do.
