Foxes are known as intelligent and crafty creatures who have striking eyes. Though the animals are known to be ingenious and cunning, they have been treated with little respect by humans, who have labeled them as “pests.”

Thankfully, a video is going viral that shows some people helping foxes in an adorable way. It all started when the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulatory Service (WRAS) was called in about a wild fox cub that needed help. Trevor Weeks, the founder of WRAS, is the man who took the call.

The family who called in said that the baby fox was trapped at the bottom of a Cooden Beach cul-de-sac drain pipe, and despite trying everything that they could, they could not get him out.

“(The family) left the cover off and thought the mum might be able to retrieve the cub,” Weeks said. “By lunchtime the next morning it was still down there. They heard the cub crying and called us.”

Weeks immediately put together a team of rescuers and headed to the scene. They could not spot the baby at first, but the team did see his mother.

“We were amazed that the vixen turned up whilst we were trying to find the cub, and it was almost as if she knew we were trying to rescue her cub,” Weeks said.

The rescuers could not find the fox, and since the drain pipe that he was in connected to many other pipes, they decided to check back in a few hours for him.

“It’s common for cubs to make their way back towards the entrance they came in from, so we decided to back off, take a break and then try again,” Weeks explained.

When the rescuers returned, they heard the baby fox crying. One of the rescuers managed to get ahold of his fur, but he could not get a good grip of him.

It took three tries, but the rescuer was finally able to free the baby fox! The poor little animal was filthy, so they rushed him back to WRAS headquarters to clean him before reuniting him with his mother within the hour. Even the seasoned rescuers were touched to watch the reunion.

“As soon as the cub realized mum was there, he was so excited and desperately wanted to get out of the carrier,” Weeks said. “With some help from mum. he managed to climb out and mum escorted him back home again. It was unbelievably emotional for us all.”
