Any time you see a gorilla it is a beautiful sight. These gorgeous creatures are on their way to extinction, so seeing them is an opportunity, but especially if you are lucky enough to see Ambam.
Ambam is a silverback gorilla who lives at the Port Lympe Zoo in Kent, England. Not only is the 28-year-old gorilla massive in size, but he does something that isn’t quite like most other gorillas.
He enjoys eating apples, hanging around with the kids, walking on his knuckles, and walking upright like a human. Yes, you read that right. Ambam likes to stand up straight and swagger like a human.
He stands over six feet tall when stretched upright, and theories are abundant as to why he exhibits this odd behavior. Ambam’s father used to exhibit the same behavior and some believe Ambam learned it from him. Others believe he has learned it by watching the people that care for him and come to visit the zoo.
The Port Lympe Zoo was originally founded as a private zoo by John Victor Aspinwall, a gambling magnate from England. Today it is the home to dozens of animals and a charitable wildlife preserve.
The zoo strives to breed the many endangered species who call the zoo home, including the gorillas. The Palace of the Apes at the zoo is the largest gorilla enclosure in the world and is home to a breeding family of western lowland gorillas like Ambam.
The zoo also has large herds of African elephants and black rhinos. Ambam is a second generation lowland gorilla at the zoo, and he isn’t the only one of the apes who likes to walk around like a human. His sister displays the behavior as well, but not as often as Ambam.

Although experts say the behavior isn’t completely unheard of, Ambam tends to exhibit the behavior quite often. Check out the video of his strange behavior below and be sure to share it with your family and friends.
