When Jenny Desmond found out that an exotic pet trafficker was attempting to sell a baby chimpanzee in Monrovia (the capital of Liberia), she knew that she had to do something.
Jenny is a chimpanzee rescuer who runs Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection with her husband, Jim. In order to make sure that the trafficker was arrested by the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Jenny had to catch him asking for money for the chimp.

Since moving to Liberia in 2015, Jenny and her husband have rescued 20 chimpanzees. Last year, they bought a 100-acre tract of forest land on a river so that they could create an animal sanctuary. There, they have been raising the chimps that they rescue.

Jenny’s passion for chimps is the reason why she went undercover to rescue a baby chimp named Ella. After setting up her sting operation, Jenny was successfully able to rescue Ella, who could not have been more grateful to her for her help. Since being rescued, Ella has followed Jenny everywhere, treating her as if she is her mother. The bond that Jenny and Ella share has touched the hearts of people all over the world!
“Jenny is so full of love that Ella can’t help but love her too…We need more Jenny’s in this world,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Wow! Jenny, you have a big heart and goes all way out to save Ella!Kudos and my respect, these chimps got their second chance!!”
