A hilarious video is going viral showing a family dog taking issue with an emu for using his backyard sprinkler to beat the heat.

Captured in South Australia, the video shows a family’s pet emu named Eemie curiously checking out the backyard water sprinkler. Eemie pecks at the sprinkler a few times before he finally sits on top of it.

The bird sits on the sprinkler for some time, blocking the water from coming out and clearly enjoying the relief that it is providing.

Finally, Eemie gets up and approaches the family dog, who has been watching disapprovingly the whole time. The little brown and white dog starts barking defensively, letting Eemie now that he does not approve of what she was doing!

The person watching cannot help but giggle as Eemie backs down to the dog and walks away. She eventually settles right next to the sprinkler so that she can dip her head into the water that is coming out.

“Eemie our emu just hanging out in the backyard under the sprinkler, she just loves it when the warmer weather is here so she can get as much water as she can,” Eemie’s owner captioned the video.

The Victoria State Government has stated that keeping emus as pets is an increasingly popular trend in the area. The birds are known as strong swimmers who also “love to play in water and mud.”
