All custodians know that school-aged kids are messy, and if it weren’t for custodians like Eugene Hinton, teachers and students would arrive to school every day to a messy school.
So when third-grade teacher Andrea Orr summoned Eugene to the cafeteria at Moody Elementary, Eugene just figured a student had made a mess. He grabbed a spray bottle and mop and headed inside.
But when he walked through the cafeteria doors, hundreds of students at Moody Elementary School in Moody, Alabama, greeted him by screaming “Surprise!” in unison.
They surprised him on October 2, National Custodian Day, to thank Mr. Eugene for everything he’s done for the students and the school. They say he’s friendly with the staff and the kids love him too.
Eugene can often be spotted dishing out fist bumps with the students as they cruise down the hallway. He’s a bit of a superhero among the student body.
This special day, the students showered him with gifts and cards and made a banner decorated with lots of little handprints that said, “Thanks Mr. Eugene for always lending a helping hand.”
Andrea trailed behind Eugene as he walked in on the surprise and caught it all on video. Check out the video below and share it with your family and friends.
