It’s difficult for any parent to hear that their child is being bullied. Like most parents, Aubrey Fontenot was livid when he heard that his 8 year-old son Jordan was being bullied by another boy named Tamarion. Instead of fighting back with anger, however, Aubrey took a more compassionate approach in the way he dealt with this situation.

After getting permission from Tamarion’s family, Aubrey picked the boy up and drove him around Houston, Texas as they talked about why he was being mean to Jordan. Tamarion explained that he went after Jordan because he was being bullied himself for not having clean clothes. When Aubrey asked Jordan’s mother about this, she confirmed that the family was homeless and in dire straights financially.

Aubrey immediately took Jordan out shopping with him to buy him new clothes. They then had a great time bonding as they sang along with the radio in his car.

“We have no clue what these children are going through these days because a lot of us just don’t care,” said Aubrey. “And this is not an uncommon story for a lot of people … so I spent a lot of my day yesterday shopping and teaching this young man about self-respect. Integrity. Morals. Confidence. And other things that consist of going from a troubled youth to a great man.”

Aubrey eventually sat Tamarion and Jordan down together and told them to talk things out. Though they were silent at first, Aubrey was able to soon get them to “settle things as men” and start a conversation.

Now, Tamarion and Jordan are best friends! Jordan has also bonded further with Aubrey by playing video games with him at the tattoo shop that he owns. Aubrey has also started a GoFundme page for Tamarion’s family that has raised over $24,000 for them!

“Things really turned out phenomenal,” says Aubrey, “more than I could ever imagined.”

This just goes to show how powerful it can be to fight with love instead of hate!
