Cynthia Stanley says she has spent her entire life feeling ugly. She hated her nose and spent years being bullied for it. People would call her “ski slope” and “pinocchio.”
She always joked that if she won the lottery she would get a nose job. Her husband John and three children had heard it for years, but they never knew that she was serious.
“I don’t care what we do, but Mama’s going to get a new nose,” Cynthia would say. So when she heard about the television show The Doctors in 2008, she wrote to them telling her why she felt so lonely and isolated due to her appearance.

The panel agreed to have her on the show, but her family had mixed feelings. They thought the was already beautiful the way she was. John couldn’t help wonder why she wanted it. “Her nose didn’t bother me,” he said. “But it bothered her.”
When John saw how excited his wife was, he couldn’t help but be excited for her. The family rallied around her in preparation and support for her journey. On the show, Cynthia received a full body makeover including a nose job, face lift, dental surgery, breast augmentation, Botox, and hair extensions.

Once the transformation was complete, Cynthia got to see herself for the first time and was brought to tears. John says she is more confident now and secure in her appearance, although he says he loved her before too.
