A 93 year-old World War II veteran is going above and beyond to cheer up members of his community.
Each weekend, Bob Williams heads to his local Dollar Store in Long Grove, Iowa to purchase a box of Hershey’s chocolate bars. Bob always makes sure to hand a bar to each of the cashiers and to whoever is on line behind him, and then he heads off to walk around town. As he walks, he gives out chocolate bars to every person that he sees.
Bob has been handing out free chocolate bars every weekend for the past ten years. After his story was published in a local magazine, it was brought to the attention of Hershey’s, and the company was so touched by it that they decided to feature him in their latest marketing campaign.
“It puts a smile on their face,” Bob says in the Hershey’s video. “It just makes me feel good.”
Since he started doing this, it’s been estimated that Bob has handed out 6,000 chocolate bars. Local resident Jan Hartwig-Heggen said that she guesses that Bob has given her “two or three hundred” chocolate bars.
Bob just got some very good news when Hershey’s announced that he will no longer have to pay for their chocolate bars! They said that they are going to make sure Bob has “all the bars he’ll ever need.”
With all the negativity in the world, it’s nice to see someone who is so devoted to uplifting others. Find out more about Bob’s story in the video below.
