Coca-Cola has been a big name in the soda industry for some 126 years, but now the company is considering going back to its roots, sort of. When the drink was introduced in 1885, it had two medicinal ingredients, coca leaf extract and kola nuts.

Although it’s hard to determine how much of the drug each bottle contained, it is believed that the drink contained as much as 1/400 of a grain of cocaine per ounce of syrup.

Traces of the drug weren’t strong enough to get anyone high, but here we are a century later and the company is reported in talks to create a version of Coca-Cola infused with a drug that could definitely give you a buzz.

BNN Bloomberg recently revealed that Coca-Cola Company and a Canadian cannabis firm, Aurora Cannabis, Inc. are discussing a collaboration of sorts.

Since the soda industry’s sales are slowing down, Coca-Cola appears to be trying to stay one step ahead of the competition. They’re looking for ways to put the legalization of marijuana in Canada and parts of the U.S. to their advantage.

While there are no clear plans as to the direction things might go, they seem to be discussing the possibility of a line of Coke drinks infused with CBD, which is a non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

Basically this means that the beverage wouldn’t get you high, but would still give you benefits like relief from pain, cramps, and inflammation. Since the news of the discussions broke, Coke and Aurora stocks have increased by 22 percent.

If a partnership is formed, these drinks may find success in Canada, but in the U.S. where the sale of cannabis remains illegal, getting past the Food and Drug Administration could be a challenge.

Before Coca-Cola, it was reported that several beer companies, including Molson Coors Brewing Co. and Diago, have also been in talks with cannabis companies. Heineken has already released a non-alcoholic drink containing marijuana under its Lagunitas brand.

What do you think of these drinks? Would you be willing to try one? Share this story with your friends and see what they think.
