Country music star Carrie Underwood is currently pregnant with her second child with her husband Mike Fischer. On Sunday, Underwood revealed in an emotional interview with “CBS This Morning” that she actually suffered three miscarriages last year.
“I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby,” she explained. “We got pregnant early 2017, and didn’t work out.”
After the first miscarriage, Underwood said that she accepted that God did not think it was the right time for her to have a baby. However, after a second miscarriage in the spring of last year and a third in early 2018, Underwood was left devastated.
“I had always been afraid to be angry,” Underwood said of that time period. “Because we are so blessed. And my son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And he’s the best thing in the world. And I’m like, ‘If we can never have any other kids, that’s okay, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t.”
Despite this, Underwood admitted “I got mad.”
She channelled all of her anger and grief into her new album “Cry Pretty,”
“Cause I would literally have these horrible things going on in my life, and then have to go smile and, like, do some interviews or, like, do a photo shoot or something, you know?” Underwood recalled.
One night during her current pregnancy, Underwood thought she was experiencing yet another miscarriage. Since her husband wasn’t home, Underwood curled up with her 3 year-old son Isaiah and proceeded to both cry and pray.
“And I was like, ‘Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid?'” she said. “‘Like, do something. Either shut the door or let me have a kid.'”
Thankfully, a doctor confirmed days later that all was well with her baby, and Underwood felt that God had heard her prayer.
“Not that He hasn’t in the past,” she said. “But maybe, I don’t know, He heard me.”
We’re so glad to hear that Underwood’s current pregnancy is going so well! Please keep Underwood and her family in your thoughts and prayers!
