Lisa Lemming Jackson works at a senior home care center in Georgia. She loves elderly people and intuitively knows their needs from her experience being around them. So one day while shopping at Kroger, her intuition told her something wasn’t right.

Lisa had come across an elderly man as he passed by her in one of the aisles. Although the man smiled at her, there was something in his eyes that showed he needed help. So Lisa took the time to ask him what was wrong.

Immediately, his eyes welled up with tears. He explained to her that he has colon cancer and had a really bad accident. “If I get up out of this cart everyone will know. What should I do?” he asked.

Jackson was heartbroken and immediately knew she had to help. Luckily, the staff at Kroger kicked in to help the man get what he needed to clean up and even gave him some dry clothes so he could feel comfortable.

“The look of his dignity lost left me with a lump in my throat. From that moment on, Kroger staff quickly fetched us wipes, undergarments, and discreetly took him to their employee bathroom where he was given clothes,” said Lisa.

She says the man apologized and cried, and explained that he needed to hurry because his wife was home alone. The man felt that the government had failed him as a veteran, but he was happy knowing that his fellow humans hadn’t.

Lisa says when they arrived back at the front of the store his groceries had been bagged and all paid for. The man cried even more and through tears explained that he had fought in the Vietnam and Korean Wars.

She says she was able to share her own struggles and fears with him and he gave her encouragement and words of wisdom. “Thank you Elmer, thank you Kroger, and thank you God for the lesson and reminder I received today,” said Lisa.
