Last month, Rhode Island resident Mary Halsey became a viral sensation for her spot-on performance of the Missy Elliott song “Work It” at a neighborhood gathering. Mary was so good in the video that Missy herself tweeted about it, calling the Rhode Island native her “funky white sister.”

Unsurprisingly, Mary ended up on “Ellen” wearing the same outfit and performing “Work It” on television this week. She was stunned when Missy showed up in the middle of the song and finished it with her!

Mary was visibly moved as she got a big hug from Missy afterwards. Then, the two sat down to talk to Ellen DeGeneres.

“I had no idea, you’ve blown me away. I can hardly just sit here,” Mary said as she led the crowd in a cheer. “Missy Elliott! Ellen DeGeneres! Mary Halsey!”

“When she first said, ‘Missy’s funky white sister,’ I was like, ‘Who is this?’” Missy said. “So when I listened, I’m like, ‘She knows all the words, but the sound effects!’ She makes the elephant noise, all of that.”

Missy ended up gifting Mary a custom bedazzled T-shirt with her signature, and Ellen gave her a jacket with “Missy’s Funky White Sister” on the back. Check out this heartwarming segment in the video below!
