Sarah Verney and her friends were driving down a forest road near Kokadjo, Maine, when they managed to come across a very unusual sight. Two lynx were standing in the middle of the road having a standoff.

While the sight alone is unusual, what they heard when they rolled down the windows was even more crazy. Lynx are rarely spotted in the wild because they typically stay hidden in the dense forest.

However, it is likely that this day the two cats were having a standoff over territory. Maine is home to some 1,000 lynx and is believed to be the only American state with a breeding population.

Sarah says she feels lucky to have caught such a sight with her own eyes. “This is a rare sighting of a stand off between two lynx that I was lucky enough to see with my own eyes! Once in a life time for sure!”
