Nowadays, it feels as if much of the stories the media reports on police officers are negative ones. That’s why it’s so refreshing that a story is going viral about a police officer doing something kind for someone else!

An elderly woman named Dolores Marotta who does not have very much money recently needed some gas, so she stopped at Citgo in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. When she got there, she handed the clerk $3 and then went out to pump her gas.

When Dolores got back to her car, however, she was in for a big surprise, as a police officer had followed her to her vehicle!

“(I said) I’m gonna help you. I had her sit in her car,” St. Clair Shores Police Officer Todd Bing said.

As the officer pumped the gas, Dolores saw the pump go past $3 and knew something was up.

“As he was pumping the gas I said he’s pumping too much I only paid the man 3 dollars,” she said.

Todd had been inside the gas station when Dolores paid, and he could tell that she needed help, so he decided to pitch in $20.

“We have to take care of those who are most vulnerable,” Todd said.

Manager Seth Kazz was touched by the officer’s gesture.

“Cops get labeled as bad people, this just shows what kind of people they are and what they do for the community,” Seth said. “I ended up taking a picture and I posted it on my Facebook and it blew up after that.”

Dolores explained that she has been struggling financially since her husband died in 2015. Seth has set up a GoFundMe page for her that has already raised over $3,600 for her.

“She’s gonna buy groceries with it. She’s gonna go get gas,” Seth said.
