A cat who was severely neglected and dumped at a Nevada animal shelter is now healthy and getting a second chance at life due to the hard work of staffers at the Douglas County Animal Care & Services.
The cat, who has been named Bob Marley, was left at the shelter’s front door in the middle of the night. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office took to social media to ask the public for help in identifying the man who abandoned the cat.

Liz Begovich, the shelter’s supervisor, explained that staffers often find animals abandoned on the porch of the shelter.
“We saw a carrier outside our door. Being an animal shelter, that usually means one thing: somebody has dumped their animal on the front porch,” Begovich said.
Even seasoned staffers were stunned when they opened the carrier.

At first, Begovich thought the animal was a dog.
“All we saw was a matted mess. We couldn’t turn him around because of the way he was shoved in the carrier,” she said. “So we took the top off and thought, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s a cat!’ I’ve never seen a cat in that sort of condition.”

“He couldn’t even take a step,” Begovich said. “I’m guessing that wherever he was, he had his food and water right in front of him. There was just no way for him to move.”
Shelter workers shaved five pounds of fur off of the cat, completely filling a trash bag with it.

Bob Marley, who is believed to be ten years-old, was put up for adoption on August 16, and he found his forever home ten days later!

We’re so glad that this cat’s story had a happy ending! Good luck, Bob Marley!
