The famous ruby red slippers that Judy Garland wore in The Wizard Of Oz have just been recovered by the FBI thirteen years after they were stolen from a Minnesota museum.

The shoes had been on loan to the Judy Garland Museum in the actress’s hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota when a man climbed through a window, broke the display case, and took them back in 2005. The shoes had been insured for $1 million.

Last summer, a man approached the insurer and said he could get back the shoes. Grand Rapids police called in the FBI, and the slippers were finally found in July during a sting operation in Minneapolis.

Though no arrests have been made at this time, the FBI said that they have “multiple suspects” and will continue to investigate. They are asking for anyone with information on what happened to the shoes to come forward.

“We’re not done. We have a lot of work to do,” said Christopher Myers, the U.S. attorney for North Dakota. Myers explained that he will be handling any prosecution, but North Dakota’s link to the case has not been revealed to the public.

The slippers played a central role in The Wizard of Oz, as Garland’s character of Dorothy has to click the heels of her slippers three times and repeat “there’s no place like home” for her to return there.

Rhys Thomas, author of “The Ruby Slippers of Oz,” desired the shoes as “the Holy Grail of Hollywood memorabilia.”

“They are maybe the most iconic cinematic prop or costume in movie history, and in fact, in cultural history,” Thomas said. “They are a cultural icon.”

We’re so glad that the ruby red slippers have been found! Find out more about this in the video below!
