Teachers are underpaid, underappreciated, and usually overwhelmed, especially in public schools. So one retired teacher took it upon herself to share her opinion on the subject. She wrote a letter to the local newspaper and it was published.
The letter, written by Lisa Roberson explains that she is a retired teacher and she is sick of people who know nothing about the public school system deciding how to fix the education system.
She went on to explain that it isn’t teachers that are the problem, it is the parents. They aren’t doing their job at home, she says. She explains that kids come to school with expensive shoes, but don’t have the supplies they need to be prepared for class.

Ms. Roberson explains that when you see schools failing you need to look at the parents and students. She says parents aren’t getting involved and talking regularly to the teachers. They don’t make sure their children are doing homework.
She says that it is parents that are failing and not schools. She says teachers can’t do their jobs until parents start doing theirs at home first. The replies she got about her letter were mixed to say the least.

While some people stood in support of her, not everyone agreed. Some people believe it is the teacher’s job to do the things that Ms. Roberson pointed out in her letter and chastised her for the criticism of parents.

What do you think? Was she right or wrong in her thoughts and opinions. As the daughter of a retired teacher, I see her point. Share this story with your family and friends and see what they think.
