Mark King had driven past the home on Highway 26 several times, and each time there was a young teen sitting on the lawn watching the big trucks go by. It became a bit of a ritual for Mark to drive by and wave and the teen would giggle and wave back.

The teen is a boy named Dakota, but he’s known to those near him as Bubba. He has Dandy Walker syndrome, a congenital brain malformation that has delayed the development of his motor skills, as well as cerebral palsy.

Bubba has lived with his foster mom, Peggy Cadd, since he was a baby. Peggy says that because of Bubba’s condition he has to have assistance walking, but the highlight of his day is when he parks his wheelchair in the yard and waits for truckers to honk as they pass by.

If he feels up to it, Bubba will sit outside every day. Mark says he felt bad that he didn’t have a horn to honk for Bubba, so he decided to do something different. He gave Bubba a gift with a t-shirt with his company logo on it and a small toy semi-trailer truck.

Mark says he grew up with a sister that had special needs so he was drawn to Bubba. Bubba’s foster parents, Peggy and Rick, have adopted 14 foster children, including Bubba. Seven of them still live at home and several have special needs. They’ve had Bubba since he was nine-months-old.

When Mark gave Bubba the gift, Peggy posted the sweet gesture on social media. It didn’t take long for Bubba’s friends on 18-wheels to come up with a plan. They created 18 Wheels for Bubba and planned the most spectacular 16th birthday party a boy could ever imagine.

With 182 semi-trailer trucks and hundreds of people in attendance, Bubba had no idea what was going on when he and his family pulled into the parking lot. They had hundreds of presents and birthday cakes too. Truckers from all over the U.S. came to celebrate with Bubba.

Bubba visited every single semi and honked as many of the horns as he could. He was named an honorary member of the Owner-Operated Independent Driver’s Association and of Dairyland Diesel, both organizations for truck drivers.
