Did you think that pineapple grows on trees? If so, you would be mistaken. Unlike the popular tropical coconut fruit, pineapple doesn’t grow on trees. It grows on plants that are anything but trees.
I never realized this either, but I grew up and live in the Midwest where we have fields of corn and wheat, not tropical pineapple. Another amazing thing about the pineapple plant that isn’t a tree is that you can actually grow your own and get a pineapple!
It’s actually pretty easy to do too, and you can do it from a pineapple that you buy from nearly any local supermarket. Here are the four simple steps that you need to follow to grow a pineapple right in your own house.

1. Remove the crown. Simply twist off the crown of your fresh store bought pineapple until it is completely removed. Leave the detached crown on your kitchen table for a few days to allow the stalk to dry and prevent rotting.

2. Place the crown in a glass up water. Remove a few of the leaves off the bottom of the crown until roots appear. Then place the crown in a glass of room temperature water. Leave it for a few days and let the roots grow out until they are about an inch in length.
3. Plant in soil. Once the roots have reached an inch in length, plant the crown an inch deep in a flower pot and firmly press the soil around it. Water it just enough to make the soil moist.

4. Water and let it grow. Use a spray bottle to water your plant every day. This will keep the soil moist without being soaking wet. Now just watch it grow and see what happens.
What do you think? Did you know you could do this? Be sure to share this with your family and friends so they can grow their own pineapple too!
