Life took a very difficult turn for Amy Rickel and her three children when they moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin to be closer to her father. There, Amy found herself homeless, jobless, and without a working car.

Amy went into panic mode when she ended up in a dingy hotel room with her three children with no way to pay for the room. That’s when God stepped in to help her in a mysterious way, and it all started with a mistaken Facebook message.

In a moment of desperation, Amy reached out to Brian Van Boxtel, mistaking him for a friend of hers who had a similar last name. She wrote to him on Facebook asking for an inspirational Bible verse that could help her see the light in dark times. As soon as she realized she had messaged the wrong person, Amy apologized to Brian and told him it was delivered to his inbox by accident.

She never expected Brian to respond in the way that he did.

“He was like, ‘Nope! God puts us in people’s lives for a reason,'” she recalled him saying.

Brian sent Amy several Bible verses to help her through this difficult time, and then he took things a step further. Within minutes, he was in the hotel room that Amy was staying in with her family with his wallet open, offering to pay for their room. And he didn’t stop there!

Once he had paid for her room, Brian advised her to start a GoFundMe page. She couldn’t believe how kind he was being, but he simply told her that he was doing God’s will.

“What would Jesus do?” Brian asked himself.

Donations started pouring in for Amy as soon as she posted her page on GoFundMe. Members of her community stepped in to help her in other unique ways as well. Kathy Schumann let Amy and the kids use her minivan, and Chad Morack helped her secure a position as a licensed practical nurse. She was finally able to score a full-time job at a a medical facility, and she’s back on her feet today!

Amy has never forgotten all of the people God sent to her to help her in her time of need.

“It’s totally restored my faith in more than just humanity, my faith in God,” she said.
