We all know that back to school shopping is expensive. Pens, paper, backpacks, new shoes and clothes can all add up, and not every family can afford those expenses.

Javari’s family is one of those families. He was getting ready to start high school and he knew that his family was struggling. He and his three siblings needed school supplies and shoes, but their mom just couldn’t afford everything.

So Javari brainstormed and came up with a plan. He decided to go door-to-door and offer to wash people’s cars for $20 a vehicle. He hoped that he would be able to earn enough money to pay for everything he and his brothers and sister needed.

When Javari walked up to Jessica Detrick and Jonathan Haltam’s home, he never could have guessed what would happen. Jessica agreed to the car wash, but Javari’s situation pulled at her heartstrings.

She knew the kid needed more than $20 and so she made a plan of her own. Her boss helped cover her shift for the evening and even donated $100 towards getting the supplies Javari desperately needed.

Jessica asked Javari if there was anything specific he wanted and he told her he needed a nice pair of shoes and a scientific calculator. What he got was much more than what he had on his list.

Thanks to Jessica and the donation from her boss, Javari headed to school with everything he needed. But Jessica didn’t stop there. She started a Facebook fundraiser that raised $4,400 by the time it ended .

Javari’s mother couldn’t thank people enough for their kindness and generosity. “Thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. I am the mother of these amazing children and I am GRATEFUL, GRATEFUL, GRATEFUL,” she said.
