Lexi Brown is a seventh grade girl who was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer. Despite this diagnosis, however, Lexi did not let cancer diminish her love of pizza!

Lexi had just undergone an incredibly difficult few weeks, as the chemotherapy she was getting to treat her fibroblastic sarcoma (cancer of the connective tissue) had caused her heart to stop. Though she was still in the hospital fighting for her life, all Lexi wanted was a nice slice of pizza!
In order to get the pizza that she craved, Lexi decided to hang a sign in her hospital room window asking for pizza delivery. Her room happened to face the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity at UCLA, and when the fraternity brothers saw her request, they knew they had to do something.

The brothers went above and beyond, soon arriving at Lexi’s hospital room bearing pizza, guitars, roses and more!

Lexi’s mother Lisa could not believe what the boys did.
“Five guys come in, and they had a guitar and a dozen roses and a box of pizza. They introduced themselves and said, ‘We saw your sign; we’re here,'” she recalled. “They stayed for half an hour, they sang this song and I started bawling my head off. I’m like, ‘I can’t believe these people are here for my child.’”

When Chase Gasper, an SAE member who plays on the UCLA soccer team, learned that soccer is Lexi’s favorite sport, he contacted other players on the team. The players ended up giving her jerseys, t-shirts, hats, and tickets.

“I texted my teammates and they all stepped up to the plate to visit her. Everyone who got to know her was really moved. It was an incredible experience and we really want her to get through it,” Chase said. “When we played our game, we kind of played with an extra edge. We really wanted to win for her, and we did.”
And the boys did not stop there! When they visited Lexi the next week, they asked her to look out her hospital window. When she did, she saw that they had put her name on their fraternity house roof in lights!

“They had me turn around and look at the lights, and I saw my name over the roof,” Lexi said. “I thought it was really cool. I didn’t think that would ever happen.”
While the boys are being hailed as heroes, SAE fraternity member Christian Wehrly explained that this is just part of their house’s creed.
“One of our creeds is being a true gentleman, and that’s following through and making sure that we can do everything we can,” he said.

Sadly, Lexi passed away in May of 2016, but before she died, she raised nearly $90,000 for pediatric cancer research.
“We would like people to know that Lexi passed away comfortably, on her own terms,” said her father Jon. “She did not suffer in the end. She passed away knowing how very loved she was.”
God bless you, Lexi!
