Summer is in full swing and the hot temperatures are raging full force. This makes it imperative that people be prepared when stepping out into the heat. Unfortunately, no matter how prepared we are, the sweltering heat can get the best of us.

On July 30, a Nevada bus driver saw an elderly man struggling in the 105 degree temperature. Mike Blair was on his regular route when he saw the gentleman at one of his last stops.

He says the man wouldn’t board the bus. He seemed like he started to grasp the wall and it was obvious he was in distress said Blair. He immediately jumped into action.

He got off the bus and went to help the man onto the bus and sat him in a seat right by the air conditioner. Then Blair grabbed a cool bottle of water from his lunch box and gave it to the man.

After 10 minutes the man reached his stop and before exiting the bus thanked the driver for his help. He explained that he was 92 years old and wouldn’t have been okay without his help.

Unbeknownst to Blair, the entire exchange had been caught in pictures by another passenger who uploaded the photos onto Twitter and Reddit. The photos quickly went viral.

Blair’s act of kindness was recognized by the bus company, Keolis and the Regional Transportation Commission applauded him for his selfless act.

“We’re all brothers and sisters,” said Blair. “I think anyone would have done that.” Keolis has already handed out 10,000 bottles of water to passengers this summer and has trained their drivers to spot the signs of dehydration.

Before his August 1 shift, Blair’s company threw him a small party to show their appreciation. Keolis even framed the photo that started it all. Blair says he just hopes his actions will inspire others to do something kind as well.
