When David Francisco woke up in a hospital bed with no feeling in his legs, he thought his world had come to an end. No more music, no more relationships. His life was over. Little did he know, that his life was just really gearing up for the good stuff.
Francisco had moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a life-long dream of having a music career. While riding his bicycle, he was struck by a driver that wasn’t paying attention. He barely survived the accident, and when he finally woke up, he couldn’t feel his legs. They were there, but they wouldn’t move, he says. He cried over the loss of his life for days on end.
After surviving the initial loss, Francisco gathered his determination and pushed forward. His body was beaten and broken, but his fighting spirit was alive and well. To start his healing, he forgave the driver that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He started physical therapy that left him in agonizing pain afterward. The therapy would continue for months.

Francisco found hope in every little bit of progress, and one day, a miracle finally happened. He says he was laying in bed one night and one foot moved. It moved just a tiny bit, but it was enough that Francisco became more determined than ever. Over the next few months, and still to this day, he says he’s had a lot of improvement.
Another unexpected joy that came from his accident was a reconnection with an old friend. Christie says she heard about Francisco’s accident and wrote him a letter of encouragement. Little did she know, that simple gesture would ignite a flame between the two that would later result in their engagement to become husband and wife.

With Christie by his side, Francisco was able to get back up on his feet, literally. With the assistance of crutches, he can now walk short distances on his own. Christie has also encouraged him to pursue his musical dream again. In the video below, you can see Francisco’s tear jerking audition on “American Idol.”
Francisco sings “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, and although it brings Judge Katy Perry to tears, the true target of his melody is the woman crying back stage, his fiancee Christie. The judges meet Francisco on stage with hugs and a golden ticket sending him to Hollywood. What an amazing comeback!
