When 18-year-old Evoni Williams stepped in to help an elderly customer cut up his breakfast, she thought she was just doing her job. Little did she know that her actions were being watched and would change the course of her life.
Williams had graduated from high school in May and started working at Waffle House in Houston to try to save up money so she could go to college. She wanted a college education, but had to save money first in order to be able to go. There was no way she could afford it otherwise.
An elderly gentleman had pulled up a seat at the counter where Williams was waitressing. He was pulling an oxygen tank beside him and obviously wasn’t the strong man he had likely been in his prime. When Williams gave him his order, he struggled to cut up the food on his plate so he could eat it. Williams didn’t hesitate to step in and help him. “When I saw it, it’s just something I would do for anybody,” she said.

Little did Williams know that another patron was touched by her kind actions. Linda Wolf had watched the scene unfold as she started off her morning. She was so touched by Williams actions that she photographed the kind waitress and posted the picture on Facebook. Her post said, “I’m thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative.”
Just one week after Williams act of kindness was posted on social media, the post had been shared 40,000 times. Unbeknownst to Williams, her actions had even reached administrators at Texas Southern University who offered her a $16,000 scholarship for her outstanding actions.
The scholarship offer stunned Williams, and was a life changing event for her. While Williams appreciates the kind words she has gotten for her actions, she says she had no idea what she did had even made it to social media. Further, Williams says she doesn’t think her actions were anything special. She simply said she felt it was the right thing to do, and she would have done it for any of her customers.

Job well done young lady and congratulations!
