It’s no secret that members of the British royal family are expected to adhere to very strict rules that control everything from the clothes they can wear to the way they can sit in a chair. Another of the rules they must follow includes not accepting gifts.
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, they asked anyone who wished to give them a gift make a donation to one of seven charities that the couple had chosen instead. However, the couple still received millions in dollars in gifts. Reportedly they planned to return around $9 million worth of gifts.
The gift giving policy is one that every member of the royal family must adhere to. No gifts, including hospitality or services, are to be accepted which would, or might appear, to place the member of the royal family under obligation to the donor or the gift itself.

While some of their family and friends reportedly did follow the couples wishes and made a donation to a charity, Queen Elizabeth II was not one of them. Instead, the Queen has reportedly given her grandson and his new wife a gorgeous home.
She gifted the newlywed couple the Adelaide Cottage just months after reportedly giving them the York Cottage on Sandringham Estate where she and some of her closest family members spend Christmas.

Although Kensington Palace has yet to comment on the gift, it is rumored that the couple has viewed the cottage and will soon be moving in. The cottage is located near St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and was built in 1831. It was once the home to Princess Margaret’s former flame Group Captain Peter Townsend.
The cottage was renovated in 2015 and has seven gated entrances and exits to Windsor Castle so the couple can come and go without worry about being photographed by the paparazzi. They are currently living at Kensington Palace’s Nottingham Cottage near Kate Middleton and Prince William.

The couple’s master bedroom in the cottage features a coved ceiling with gilded dolphins and rope ornament from a 19th century royal yacht, as well as a marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace. Maybe one day the royal couple will give us a glimpse into their home, but until then, we’ll just have to use our imaginations.
Sounds like the Queen really likes to take care of her family. Be sure to share this story with your friends and family and wish the happy newlyweds the best.
