It’s been twelve years since Steve Irwin passed away, but he is still dearly missed by millions of people all over the globe. Though everyone was stunned by Steve’s death at the young age of 44, his widow Terri has just revealed that his passing would not have shocked him at all.

“He never thought he’d have a long life. He always kind of had this sense his life would be cut short,” Terri said in a recent interview.
Steve was sadly proven to be right when a sting ray approached him and pierced him in the chest with its barb as he filmed “Ocean’s Deadliest” in Queensland, Australia.
“I just remember this incredible sense of responsibility, this feeling of overwhelming grief but ‘what do I do next? I kind of collected my thoughts and then had to go out to the car and tell Bindi and Robert … which was really hard,” Terri said.

Terri went on to tearfully talk about the last time she saw Steve. She was flying to Tasmania with their children, Bindi and Robert, while Steve stayed behind to film his show.
“I remember him at the airstrip waving goodbye. That was the last time we saw him,” she said.
While Steve would not have been shocked by his own death, Terri said he would have been stunned by all the tributes that poured in for him.
“No one would’ve been more surprised than Steve at the outpouring of grief and love,” Terri said. “Famous wasn’t a word that occurred to Steve. I loved that about him, he was never pretentious, never big-noted himself, and we did put everything we made for wildlife and still do back into conservation, I’m really proud of that.”

We hope that Steve’s family can take solace in the fact that he left a wonderful legacy. We miss you every day, Steve!
