In what can only be described as every dog-lover’s dream come true, 361 golden retrievers just gathered at Guisachan Estate in Tomich, Scotland two celebrate the 150th birthday of the popular dog breed.
The event was put together by the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland, and this was by far the most golden retrievers that have ever come to one of their celebrations!
Dudley Majoribanks, also known as Lord Tweedmouth, is credited with breeding the first litter of golden retrievers on July 19, 1868. He bred them by crossing a wavy-coated retriever with a tweed water spaniel. Tweedmouth had crossed these breeds in the hopes of breeding a dog that could swim far enough to retrieve water foul.
“It was a fantastic day, lovely to see all the Goldens playing and having fun together,” said Ashleigh Baird, who attended this week’s gathering. “We were so surprised that people had travelled from all over the world to be there, but that made it all the more special. We tried to pet and cuddle all 361 goldens and it was heaven.”
I would have loved to have been able to attend this amazing event! We would like to wish the entire golden retriever breed a very happy birthday!
