Madison, just three-years-old, had been out shopping with her mom, Jenna Rachal, when they arrived home and realized that her stuffed bunny was missing. Madison had loved the bunny since she was born and was understandably upset when it went missing.

Jenna went to the Publix grocery store in Daphne, Alabama, where they had been shopping and found out that no one had turned in the stuffed animal. The distraught mother took to social media to see if anyone had seen the bunny.

The post was shared hundreds of times and was eventually spotted by the manager of the local Publix store. Unable to bear the thought that a toddler was without her best friend, he decided to check surveillance footage for the bunny.

Mike Gayheart, the manager, discovered that Bunny had been left in their shopping cart as they were loading groceries. Bunny was then thrown in the trash, made its way to the dumpster, and then the compactor was taken to the landfill.

Gayheart still was determined not to give up. Him and three of his employees, Alex Chandonnett, Jordan De La Rosa, and Bobby Barnhart went to the landfill and sorted through the trash until they managed to find Bunny.

Bunny went home with Gayheart who washed him three times before returning him to Madison. She didn’t know where Bunny had been, but Jenna thanked the rescue workers for bringing Bunny home. She took to Facebook to praise the workers for their compassion.

“I plan on calling Publix corporate to tell them and post to news and radio sites so everyone knows how awesome these people are,” said Jenna. “This is above and beyond and a true example of the good people in the world.”
