A group of poachers were hit with a brutal dose of karma when they broke onto a reserve in the hopes of killing rhinos, only to end up being eaten by lions themselves!
Staffers at the Sibuya Game Reserve in Kenton-on-Sea, South Africa say that at least three hunters were ripped to shreds by a pack of six lions after they entered the reserve illegally. The staffers found bloody body parts scattered around the reserve this week, including a human head and limbs.
“The lions are our watchers and guardians and they picked the wrong pride and became a meal,” reserve owner Nick Fox said of the poachers. “Whilst we are saddened at any loss of life, the poachers came here to kill our animals and this sends out a very clear message to any other poachers that you will not always be the winner.”
“We found enough body parts and three pairs of empty shoes, which suggest to us that the lions ate at least three of them but it is thick bush and there could be more,” Fox continued in an official statement.
The six lions had to be tranquilized for the rest of the human remains to be recovered. Fox explained that officials found hunting rifles, gloves and axes, which proves that the poachers were after rhinos.
“They were armed with high-powered rifles with silencers and an ax for the horns and wire cutters and sidearms and they had enough food with them to last for many days,” Fox said. “They were clearly intent on killing rhinos and cutting off their horns.”
While it’s always sad when someone dies, these poachers were doing something evil when they broke onto this reserve to kill animals for their own profit. We can only hope that this story serves as a reminder to others that poaching is NEVER okay!
