Prince William and Kate Middleton have just announced the godparents of their youngest child Prince Louis, and some of their decisions may surprise you.

Here are the six people who will be godparents to Louis:

• Mr. Nicholas van Cutsem
• Mr. Guy Pelly
• Mr. Harry Aubrey-Fletcher
• The Lady Laura Meade
• Mrs. Robert Carter (Hannah)
• Miss Lucy Middleton

Many are surprised that neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle are on the list, but each of the godparents are either close friends or relatives to William and Kate.

Van Cutsem is a childhood friend of William’s and is the father of Grace van Cutsem, who was a bridesmaid at the 2011 wedding of William and Kate. Grace became known as the child who was photographed covering her ears on the balcony as William and Kate kissed.

Pelly is a nightclub owner who is a longtime friend to William and Prince Harry. He was often spotted partying with the royals back in the day, and has remained close to them ever since.

Aubrey-Fletcher has been friends with William since they attended Eton together. William was also an usher at Aubrey-Fletcher’s 2010 wedding to Louise Stourton.

Meade is the wife of James Meade, who is a friend of William’s from Eton as well. He is godfather to William’s daughter Princess Charlotte, so it seems that it has been decided that his wife will be taking charge of being godparent to Louis.

Carter is a close friend of Kate’s from her days at Marlborough College. Finally, Middleton is one of Kate’s cousins.

While it’s a bit surprising that Harry and Meghan were not named as godparents to Louis, he clearly has quite a group of godparents who are ready to support him!
