It’s been nearly twelve years since Steve Irwin passed away, but he is still lives on in countless YouTube videos that remind all of us just how amazing he really was. He spent his life getting up-close encounters with animals in the wild, and many of his videos still go viral all these years later.

One of this viral videos is a clip showing what happened when Steve came face-to-face with an orangutan mother.

Steve climbed up a tree deep in the forest of Sumatra and sat down on a branch just a few feet away from the mother orangutan. The Crocodile Hunter is seen sitting perfectly still with his arms crossed over his stomach, not moving a muscle as he waits for the orangutan to approach him. The mother, who is holding her small baby in her arms, is clearly intrigued by Steve. What she does next is nothing short of unbelievable!

The mother orangutan does something that is incredibly unusual for an animal in the wild to do. Holding her baby, she walks up to Steve and sits down right next to him! The mother proceeds to introduce her baby to Steve as if he is a dear friend! It’s clear that she feels comfortable around Steve, which just goes to show how special his gift with animals really was.

This is just one of the many incredible interactions with animals that Steve had in his lifetime. There will never be anyone else quite like Steve Irwin!
