Marcio Donaldson auditioned for “American Idol” last season and he made it all the way to the Hollywood round, but went home after the group performance. This year, he cam back and is ready to face the competition again.
The 28-year-old singer from California has faced plenty of challenges in his life time. He grew up in the inner city and says he watched a lot of people succumb to the circumstances. He wants to be a light for those who don’t see dreams as being attainable.
When he was young, he and his sister were placed in foster care. Marcio turned to music to give him hope. As adults, he learned his sister was pregnant, but due to issues with drugs, she wasn’t able to keep the baby.

The police and a social worker showed up at Marcio’s door and told him he had to either keep the child or his sister’s one-week-old baby would go into the system. Knowing he didn’t want the baby to face the same thing he did, he agreed to take the baby.
Marcio says he had no idea what he was doing, but says the baby has been a real gift. “I know it was the right decision,” said Marcio. “He’s changed my life.”

Now that Marcio is taking the “American Idol” stage for the second time, he says he’s singing for both himself and his nephew. “I want to show him what a man can really do when you step up to the plate,” said Marcio. “I want to give him a better life.”
After a beautiful audition, Marcio and his son went home with a golden ticket. Check out their story and Marcio’s audition in the video below and be sure to share it with your family and friends.
