Losing a spouse is incredibly difficult, particularly when you have shared your entire lives together. Sadly, this is the situation that Bobby Moore found himself in when his wife of 59 years, Jerry, passed away earlier this year at the age of 78.
Bobby’s family requested that his experience be written up on Facebook, and the post has since gone viral, touching people all over the world.
“Today I saw a man, a broken man, standing vigil over his most prized possession. Here was love personified,” the post said. “When he walked into the room, his steps were faulty, but his determination was undaunted. His eyes were fixed upon his destination at the front of the room. A steel grey casket sat under the colored lights. Half of its lid was propped open; the closed half held a spray of vivid, mix-matched flowers adorned with ribbons which read the words ‘wife’ and ‘mother.’ Upon approaching and without pause, he leaned down and kissed her painted lips, his frail body trembling to keep upright.”
Bobby had shared his entire life with Jerry, and he had no intention of leaving her side now. He was still sitting with her when his family began to arrive.
“She looks good, doesn’t she?” he asked them.
Bobby sat by his wife’s side for five hours until he was too exhausted both mentally and physically to sit anymore. April Yurcevic Shepperd snapped the photo of him and posted it online with his family’s permission, and it has since gone viral with people all over the globe being touched by it.
