While you might not think you would want your dog labeled as the ugliest dog, some people truly fight for the title. This year’s lucky winner of the 2018 World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in the San Francisco Bay Area is a 9-year-old bulldog named Zsa Zsa.
Zsa Zsa’s owner, Megan Brainard from Anoka, Minnesota, says they adopted the bulldog from a puppy mill four years ago. As soon as she saw her picture, she says she had to have her. Brainard will receive $1,500 for the win.
Dogs from all over come to the contest to flaunt their imperfections. Some are hairless, others have lolling tongues just like Zsa Zsa. The dogs are often dolled up in attire and have been fully groomed as they walk down the red carpet.

The dogs are evaluated by the judges who decide on a winner. This year’s contestants included a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested Dachshund mutt, a bulldog mix with excessively wrinkled skin, and a Pekingese named Wild Thing.
The contest is in its 30th year and was held this year on a Saturday in hopes of drawing a bigger crowd. Last year’s winner was a 125-pound gentle giant named Martha. She is a neopolitan mastiff mix with a bad case of gas and a droopy face.
