A 90 year-old man from Houston, Texas has just made a move that shows that you are never too old to say “sorry.”

The local mayor has spoken out to say that the Texan has been forgiven after he sent a handwritten apology along with a $50 bill to the Midvale, Utah, public works department. Nearly 75 years ago, the unnamed man stole a stop sign in Midvale.

In his note, the apologetic Texan identified himself only as a “sorrowful citizen” and included money as compensation for it.

“I am enclosing $50 to pay for this stop sign I stole when I was a thoughtless teenager. Stupid might be a better word for it,” the man wrote.

The man went on to explain that he is trying to make restitution for his past wrongs.

“All of these things have made me sorrow over the few things I did when I was young. I wish to be forgiven by the Lord, so I am sorry and truly repentant,” he wrote.

Midvale officials would love for the man to come forward so that they can meet him in person, as his letter included no return address. Mayor Robert Hale publicly said that the town has forgiven the man.

“He paid more than $50 in 75 years he’s been carrying that burden on his shoulder…He’s cleared it up as far as we’re concerned. We can scratch out that line on the account receivable now,” Hale said.

We would like to applaud this man for letting the world know that it’s never too late to apologize for past wrongs! SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
