UPS driver Paul Pereira had just worked his last shift, and he was on his way to his last stop when his day took a surprising turn.
Paul was driving through Haverhill when something caught his eye that had him stopping dead in his tracks. Screeching his truck to a halt, he jumped out of it and sprinted across the street. Paul ran through the yard of Brian and Tracy Lavender’s home and onto their porch. Paul started banging frantically on their door, trying to get the attention of whoever was inside the house.

What Paul had seen was a huge fire on the porch of the home. The blaze had started on a table and was quickly engulfing the entire porch. Tracy and her daughter were inside, and they had no idea the fire was happening until the heard Paul’s shouts. The two ran outside as their neighbor called 911.
“I just ran over, banged on the door, told the people in the house, ‘Your house (is) on fire!'” Paul said.

Though the fire was large and approaching the home was dangerous, Paul was not about to let the family inside get hurt. Though he claims he was only doing what anyone else would do, people all over the world are hailing him as a hero!
“I don’t feel I am a hero. I think anybody would do it if they saw a fire, you know, act on it,” Paul said.
