Summer is finally in full swing, so millions of Americans are trying to spend as much time outside as possible. One of the only annoying things about being outside in the summer is when you find yourself being targeted by mosquitoes. We’ve found a few reasons that could explain why mosquitoes love to bite you.

Mosquitoes love sweat

Most people think it’s human blood that draws in mosquitoes, but it’s actually the carbon dioxide we exhale that makes them come to us. The harder you breathe, the more CO2 you emit, so people exercising outside may find themselves being targeted.

Mosquitoes love beer

Believe it or not, mosquitoes can tell when you’ve been drinking alcohol because the chemistry in your skin changes in a way that lures them in.

Mosquitoes love smelly feet

Scientists have found that mosquitoes love smelly feet. We must warn you that Zika-carrying mosquitoes are particularly drawn in by this, so you might want to focus on keeping your feet especially clean in the summer!

Mosquitoes do not like landscaped homes

Mosquitoes love overgrown vegetation, and the better your lawn is mowed, the less appealing it will be to them.

Mosquitoes love pregnant women

Mosquitoes find the blood of pregnant women to be very appealing because they emit more carbon dioxide and have an abdomen that has a higher temperature than when they are not pregnant.

As you go about your summer activities, keep all of this in mind when you are deciding how likely it is that mosquitoes will target you!
