Once you’ve reached a certain age, you start to notice just how much the world has changed around you. Before you know it, all the gadgets that were once “hip” and “cool” are gone, and young people are using slang that you are clueless of the meaning.

The following are eight gadgets that you’ll recognize immediately, but anyone under 30 will have a difficult time naming.

Pager

Not so long ago, pagers were the essential piece of technology for business people. Teenagers would also use it to communicate with each other before texting was around. Yes, kids, there was a time when texting was not a thing!

Cassette Tapes

This is how we all listened to music back in the day. Anyone who was around in the days of cassettes knows the total misery that would come when the tape would get caught in the recorder!

Camera Flashes

Before we all had cameras on our phones, actually owning a camera was a huge deal. Owning one with a decent flash was considered to be the epitome of cool. The flash was very elaborate, and it was definitely difficult to fit it in your pocket!

Floppy Disks

These gizmos were actually required as school supplies when I was a kid! They were used to save assignments, and if you ever lost one, you could buy another from your teacher for ten cents.

Church Keys

These would be used to open cans of juice. You could poke a big hole on one side, and then make another one on the other side so that it would flow better.

Library Card Catalogues

Before you could find all books at the library on a computer, you would use this system to find them. Kids today would never be able to figure out the intricate process of finding a book in these catalogues!

Credit Card Imprinters

Back when credit cards weren’t as common as they are now, a cashier would take an imprint of your card because each and every transaction required calling your bank. Yes, it was far more tedious than swiping your credit card has become!

Green Stamps

Green stamps were a points program, and any store that posted a sign saying “we distribute Green Stamps” was guaranteed to have good business. If you saved up enough of these stamps, you could use them to buy stuff yourself.
