Whenever you buy a house, you know that you are going to have to deal with neighbors. Because you are both going to be sharing the same space, it is important to be friendly with your neighbors so that you can build community rapport.
The more you get to know your neighbors, however, the more it will become clear what their small idiosyncrasies are!
The man in this story was confused when he noticed his neighbor walk outside her house with brand-new Irish Spring soap. She proceeded to chop the soap into chips and scatter it around her vegetables and flowers.

The man took to Google to figure out what was going on, typing in “why people put soap in their garden,” and he was amazed by what he found! The man had assumed his neighbor was crazy, but he quickly learned that there was actually a method to her madness. It turns out that scented soaps keep animals away from your flowerbeds and vegetable gardens. You can even go one step further by attaching the soap to wooden stakes.
By the time the man concluded his research, he was running outside to put soap in his own yard! Here’s what you need to make this trick happen yourself:
-One dozen bars of Irish Spring scented soap
-A knife
-6 wooden stakes that are 3-feet tall
-6 mesh pouches or patches of cheesecloth
-A staple gun
Begin by cutting the soap into pieces and putting the pieces into your mesh pouches or tie them into bags with the cheesecloth. Hammer the stakes into the ground and make sure there is at least two feet of wood protruding out. Take the rest of the soap and sprinkle it around your garden in high-traffic spots or near desirable plants.
