Police in the United Kingdom were just forced to smash into a car in order to rescue two dogs who were left inside the vehicle by a careless owner despite the soaring temperatures.

This came less than 24 hours after U.K. officials issued a warning to the British public about a mini-heat wave that is sweeping the nation. Officers said that this incident has been referred to the RSPCA and the owners would likely be prosecuted.

York City Centre Police officers issues a statement on Twitter saying that they had “just rescued two dogs from a vehicle where the owners had left them for over half an hour in a car in the blazing hot sun.”

“The window was smashed and the owners will be prosecuted by RSPCA,” the tweet continued. “There is no excuse for this, I am utterly appalled.”

“When we arrived police had already removed two Labradors from the vehicle,” an RSPCA spokesman said. “The dogs were taken to the vets for treatment for heat exhaustion and now remain in RSPCA care. An investigation has been launched so we cannot comment any further at this time.”

Incidents like this one have become far too common all over the world, and it’s time for pet owners and parents to realize how dangerous it is to leave their children or animals locked inside a car in sweltering heat. We’re thankful that police were able to get into this car in time before these dogs were seriously harmed!
