From major surgeries, to baby arrivals, to huge weddings, this has been a busy year for the British royal family. Though younger members of the royal family like Prince William and Prince Harry have been open about their loving relationships with their significant others, royal fans have been deprived of one very special royal relationship: that of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have been married for over 70 years, and during their many decades together, they have faced many challenges. Despite everything they have faced, they have remained devoted partners to each other through it all.
Since the early days of their marriage, the Queen and Prince Philip have kept most of their affection for each other private. Over the years, this lack of public displays of affection has caused some to question whether their marriage is true. Former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy even infamously pointed out Elizabeth and Philip’s lack of affection for one another during her visit to Buckingham Palace in 1961.
Royal biographer Gyles Brandreth has defended their marriage, explaining that the couple has always believed in “stoic values” that are reflective of their generation.
Royal fans love seeing the Queen and Prince Philip sharing more personal moments, since the public so rarely gets to see that. That’s why everyone was thrilled when Elizabeth and Philip were photographed giggling and smiling together at the Royal Ascot on June 24th!
This moment was all the more rare given the fact that Prince Philip has not stepped out in public very often since having major surgery earlier this year.
