Sometimes when babies make their entrance into the world, it’s on their own schedule and in their own way. So was the case when Jes Hogan gave birth to her sixth child. Her only son, named Max, couldn’t even wait for his mom to make it to her hospital room.
Jes says she began having contractions and spent hours laboring in a tub and walking the hospital hallways. Finally, with the birth seemingly nowhere in sight, the couple headed home to relax in hopes of having an intervention-free birth like they had planned.
Later that night, the contractions became worse and the couple headed back to the hospital. Travis, her husband, ran into the ER as Jes made her way out of the car. Their birth photographer Karin showed up just in time.

As they made their way inside Jes says they made it through the first set of double doors then it was apparent that her son wasn’t waiting any longer. She could feel his head crowning so she took off her pants. “I looked at my husband and said, ‘Travis catch him!’,” and without hesitation he did.
She says she could just feel her body pushing the baby the rest of the way out. Nurses ran in to help and the couple says they are impressed by how the hospital staff gently and carefully handled the unexpected situation.
Karin, the photographer managed to catch some amazing photographs of the situation. Although the birth wasn’t what she planned it to be, it was still a perfect birth. “It was not at all what I had planned, but it ended without intervention, with a healthy baby, and amazing support people by our sides,” said Jes. “It was beautiful and I’ll forever love every memory of it.”

Baby Max was the first boy among five older sisters and they were all excited to join him shortly after the birth. With mom, dad, and baby settled into their hospital room, the sisters joined them to meet their new brother. Baby Max and Jes are doing just fine.
