Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed people putting spoons in the grass outside their houses. Now, we know the reason why!
It turns out that performing the simple gesture of grabbing a spoonful of sugar along with some water and then placing this outside can play a role in saving humanity. Experts say that this small gesture will do wonders in keeping the bee population alive. This is incredibly necessary because bees are pollinators who are responsible for feeding 90% of the world’s populations.

Sir Richard Attenborough, who narrates The Blue Planet and Planet Earth warned that “in the last five years, the bee population has dropped by 1/3.”
“In the last 5 years the bee population has dropped by 1/3. If bees were to disappear from the face of the earth, humans would have just 4 years left to live,” Attenborough continued. “This time of year bees can often look like they are dying or dead, however, they’re far from it. Bees can become tired and they simply don’t have enough energy to return to the hive which can often result in being swept away. If you find a tired bee in your home, a simple solution of sugar and water will help revive an exhausted bee. Simply mix two tablespoons of white, granulated sugar with one tablespoon of water, and place on a spoon for the bee to reach. You can also help by sharing this post to raise awareness.”
Social media users thanked Attenborough for raising awareness about the importance of saving bees.
“Thank you Sir David Attenborough. Bees, these incredible important little beings have had me concerned for awhile now, how the numbers have dropped. So simple I will do this!” one social media user wrote.
“Plant plenty of flowers & plants that attract bees,” another added. “I did this year and the garden is full of color and plenty of bees – definately working. If you see a bee that is not moving on the ground, give it a teaspoon of sugar and water.”
Bees may seem like pesky and annoying creatures, but they actually play a hugely important role in this world! SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
