Turning 30-years-old is a big milestone for anyone. But if you’re a cat, turning 30 is something extraordinarily special. For one cat in the UK named Rubble, that is exactly what happened. He just celebrated his 30th birthday, and we’re not talking 30 in cat years.

Rubble has been with his human mom Michele Foster from Devon since she got him as a kitten on her 20th birthday in May 1988. He turned 30-years-old last week and has just been named the oldest living cat in the world.

For Rubble’s big day, his veterinary team at City Vets gifted him a free check up and some tasty treats. His veterinarian, Sean Moore, says despite Rubble’s age, he’s doing remarkably well. He suffers from high blood pressure, but that’s not much of a shock considering his age.

“We recently had this amazing cat in for a checkup and to celebrate his 30th birthday,” said Moore. “Rubble is quite likely to be the oldest cat in the UK and is still going strong. He’s on medication for high blood pressure but apart from that, he’s in remarkably good health.”

Considering that being a 30-year-old cat would make Rubble 137-years-old if he was a human, we’d say he’s doing really well. Michele says she never had children, so Rubble has been like a son to her. She says he’s a lovely cat and is very loyal, although he has gotten a bit grumpy in his old age.

Rubble came from a litter that belonged to her sister’s friend. He’s moved around with her a lot over the years, but she says if you care about something and really love them, they go with you. She says the love she has for Rubble will last forever.

By celebrating Rubble’s 30th birthday, that means he now matches the age of the last world record holder, Scooter. Scooter took the Guinness World Record title when he turned 30, but died shortly after. The oldest cat on record was Creme Puff that lived to the age of 38.

Although Michele says she’s impressed with Rubble’s long life span, she says she won’t make a celebrity out of him. She says he has plenty of life in  him, but she doesn’t think he would like people coming to see him and making a fuss out of him. She would prefer that he be able to live his old life out in peace.
