You may have never heard of Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), but you likely either have or will experience it at some point in your life.

RLS is a condition that leads you to feel an uncontrollable urge to move your legs, usually because of an uncomfortable sensation. This sensation usually only comes when a sufferer is sitting or lying down, and is only eased by movement.

People who suffer from RLS describe the sensation as “itchy” or like a “creepy crawly” feeling in the legs. Many who suffer from this syndrome don’t know there’s an actual name for the condition they are experiencing.

We’ve compiled some of the best known methods to treat RLS symptoms. If you or a loved one are suffering from RLS, try one of these strategies and see if it helps:

Iron and Vitamin Supplements

Iron deficiency is one possible cause of RLS, so increasing your iron intake may treat it. Vitamin D, C and E have also been found to help lower the frequency of the RLS sensations.

Massage

Massaging the restless muscles can ease the symptoms of RLS, according to many sufferers who have tried this treatment.

Foot Wrap

If you wrap your foot up a certain way, you can activate certain pressure points that are said to help the muscles in your legs relax. We must warn you that this method can be costly, as wraps can cost as much as $200.

Compression

Pneumatic Compression Devices (PCD) can treat symptoms by improving your circulation. The device inflates over your leg and then deflates, repeating the process for several minutes.

Vibration Pad (Relaxis)

A Relaxis is a vibrating pad that you place directly on the area that you are feeling symptoms in. The vibrations of the pad will help provide “counter stimulation” and hopefully be enough to distract from the other symptoms.
