There are many creatures out in the wild that still have yet to be discovered, and even more that could lie deep in the depths of the ocean. The recently discovered Ruby Seadragon is one of those amazing creatures that has finally been found alive.

Glimpses of the creature have been seen before, but none of them have been alive. All of the Ruby Seadragons seen up until now have been specimens preserved in museums and a few rare Ruby Seadragons have washed up dead onto shore.

Scientists with Scripps Oceanography and the Western Australian Museum felt like they finally had enough evidence to go searching deep into the ocean to see if they’d be lucky enough to spot the first live Ruby Seadragon.

They pieced together hints and remains that had washed up on shore to determine where the best location would be to begin their search. After piecing together the puzzle, they finally got a glimpse of a real, live Ruby Seadragon in all of its glory.

The ocean was so deep where they went searching that they sent down cameras and right before their eyes was the most amazing and rare sea creature they’d ever seen. It was small in size, brightly colored, and had unique actions and lifestyle that made its discovery even more than they had imagined.

Scientist Josefin Stiller couldn’t have been more happy to deliver news of the exciting discovery. “I discovered a third species of Seadragon. A new species we had no idea existed in the oceans.” The successful discovery of the beautiful creature wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the scientists who found it.

If it weren’t for the scientists, this creature would have remained hidden deep in the ocean and we would have never known its beauty.
